As women, we juggle  many responsibilities in our day.  It’s a struggle sometimes to balance everything that life brings at us.  If a genie could grant us all one wish, I’m sure most of us would desire a few more hours in the day.  Here’s a few tips to help maximize your efforts and “jump-start” the day.

  • Before going to bed, gather and sort a load of laundry. Go ahead, load one into the washer!
  • Before leaving for work, soak all dirty dishes in a sink full of very hot water.
  • Create a “Must Do” list for the day, and don’t stop until these tasks are done.
  • Sort through kid’s backpacks the night before, loading them with lunch money, gym clothes, and their library books.
  • Do any advanced dinner preparations before                                                          going to work.
  • Segregate your calendar into tasks that maximize                                                         the most time efficiency.

The playing field is the same, we all have the same amount of time.  24 hours is all we are ever guaranteed.  Success comes when we work smarter, not harder.

Snow is falling in central Ohio, which can lead to challenges on the roads and in our entryways.  Keeping clutter at bay can be difficult this time of year, as clutter seems to accumulate when we first walk in the door.  Here’s a few tips to keep you organized and ready to face the brisk winter season.

Make a Boot Box-Line the bottom of a tray  or box with pebbles from the garden, using it for drainage with wet snow covered boots.

Assign Storage Bins- Give every member  a space of “their own” to house belongings and essentials for outdoors.  Bins can be placed in cubbies, stacked below a bench, or hung on the walls.

Accessories Organizer-Hang  a few wire baskets on the wall or inside a closet door for gloves, scarves, and hats,  hanging one for the adults separately, in order to have them when you need them.

Communications Wall- Create a message center with memo boards or chalkboards.  It’s a great place to communicate with family members.

Accordian Wine Rack- Place an accordian wine rack on top of the dryer to hang gloves, hats, and scarves from to dry.

Slippery When Wet-Safeguard your home by placing mats and rugs through the entryway and into your home.  If removing shoes is a policy in your home, have a basket or tray with a pair of shoes there, so guests know  what to expect.

Booking speaking engagements can be  a great way to boost credibility and build leadership effectiveness among your peers and potential clients.  This need not be a big ordeal, and with a few tips, can be little work in delivering the knowledge and resources you already possess, to others.

Know Your Audience: Make your topic relevant to the audience, and understand who is listening.  How big is the audience?  What will the atmosphere be like?

Be Prepared and Understand the Format: How much time will you have? Who will you be following, and is the audience expecting interaction or question and answer opportunities?

Time Yourself and Stay On Track: Make sure the presentation has a clear main message with three main objectives. Time how long your presentation will take in front of  a mirror.

Provide Supporting Materials: Engage your audience by presenting relevant facts and statistical information through slide presentations, visual examples, or printed materials.  This can be useful in emphasizing the main points.

Arrive Early and Rest Easy: Arrive early to get set up.  This will give you time to relax and prepare the mind of before presenting.

Cease The Moment and Enjoy the Opportunity! This is a time to share with others experiences that have helped pave your road to success.  People love hearing inspiring stories.  Be proud of who you are!

Are papers running your life, both at home and the office?  Finding a solution and taking action steps daily to tame this paper giant will eliminate stress and keep you on a healthy track.  Here are some simple tips to respond to paper overload:

R A P I D:

Read through all information and determine if it’s for you.

Attend to Papers Immediately-sort through mail and documents as soon as you receive them.  Bringing papers in and tossing them somewhere to sort later will only compound the project.  Try to handle things only once.

Plan for Action When Necessary-have a folder handy for weekly “to do” action items that need taken care of.

Important Papers need Action Immediately.  If there are papers that others are waiting for or that need immediate attention with a signature, sign it immediately and continue on with the document’s process.  This will help maintain efficiency.

Dump and Shred papers that aren’t important.  Shred those excess paper pounds in your homes and offices by daily eliminating unnecessary and unwanted paper.

Establishing routines and permanent places for things is essential for healthy organizational living.   With tax season on the horizon, it’s important to have a good file system in place.  What do you do with a reimbursing receipt or other expense you have paid for out of your personal account?  Do you have a folder for mileage logs, contributions, and other tax items that is up to date and readily available?   If you haven’t revisited your current system, now is the time to do so.

Have a great week!  From your friends at MB Organizers!

Looking better and feeling good about ourselves is one resolution we all tend to make at the start of a new year.  We tend to eat less and exercise more.  Healthy organizational habits can be developed using these same strategies.

I used today to sort through drawers in my office and around the home. I also set an appointment with myself, a couple hours each week this month,  to tend to other specific areas within my office and home.

Once an effective organized system is put in place, it only takes  major YEARLY maintenance and DAILY clear ups to keep things in working order.  Go ahead, start feeling better about yourself!  A healthier YOU lends itself to having a more fit working environment as well.

Happy New Year! It’s the start to a new year and the beginning of a new decade!  Here’s some great tips featuring the number 10 as we celebrate the beginning of 2010…

  • If a task can be done in 10 minutes or less, do it now!
  • As I always tell my kids, “Always leave a place 10 times better than you found it!”
  • Donate 10 things each month to someone you know could benefit from them while decluttering your life!
  • Take 10 minutes at the start and end of each day to review a list of the top “must do” items.
  • Break your home into 10 zones, and concentrate on only one zone at a time.
  • Take an extra 10 minutes for lunch and walk the stairs.
  • Break tasks or projects down into 10 minute increments.  Rewarding yourself along the way.

Miriam Bogard, On Behalf of The Women’s Book Team

Whew!  What a month of hustle and bustle!  We are approaching the last week of the year!  Many of us will be spending time sorting through papers, finishing up projects, and reflecting on goals for the coming year.

A commitment to be more organized is oftentimes on people’s wish-list, but it’s hard to get motivated.  The most important decision you can make is to “get started!”

Event Happenings for the Week:

AWIB House Wine Social (Awesome Women in Business) Tuesday, December 29, 2009 6:30 PM – 8:00 PM

Organization is a process and it sometimes can take steps to develop a system that’s right for you.  If you want to make time with email run more smoothly, then start by creating more folders within your inbox.   Categorize them by responses that need to be made.  If it’s  files and papers that are driving you crazy, then just set up some general categories on each subject.  Then break down each category with a more detailed vision.  Getting started and achieving small steps toward your goal will keep you motivated.

Hope you have a wonderful week!
