I was recently invited by a friend to go on a weekend get-away trip to Scottsdale, Arizona that she planned for a small group of her girlfriends. I was a little hesitant at first because I am a bit swamped with work, but I accepted her invitation after I realized that it’s been about eight years (good lord!) since I last went on any type of fun vacation with other women. The friend who invited me is a successful corporate executive who is married and has two kids. I knew that if she could get away, I could get away.
I jumped on the plane and didn’t regret it - the trip was fabulous! Besides reconnecting with my good friend, I was able to develop relationships with five other wonderful women. We stayed in a beautiful rented home, took a scenic hike, and ventured to spa appointments, shopping and outstanding restaurants. There was no shortage of laughter and insightful discussions about the latest fashion trends, celebrity gossip, politics and even men.
When was the last time you reconnected with your good friends? You don’t have to go far to spend quality time with the special women in your life – try making a group appointment at a local spa; renting a local hotel room for a night; going to dinner; or taking a road trip to an area attraction. If you can, I highly recommend leaving town. There is nothing like enjoying a new city together or even going back to a favorite place that is far away from the demands of your everyday life.
Whatever you do, make time to reconnect with your girlfriends regularly – it’s a great way to rejuvenate your spirit and show the women you care about most how much you appreciate them.
