This is Women’s Self-Empowerment Week (Jan. 3-9), a week-long observance that was created to help women reflect on and feel good about their accomplishments and roles in society. Men and women can use this week as an opportunity to celebrate women’s achievements.
What a fabulous way to kick off the year! Here at The Women’s Book, we celebrate women’s empowerment all year-long just like the broad range of women’s organizations and leaders who we showcase in our publications. We’re absolutely thrilled that even more people and organizations will be focused on it this time of the year given the far-reaching impact of women in society.
One special thing that we will do this week is to regularly post women-firsts and significant achievements in the Columbus area community – there are some surprising facts that you might not know about.
What are you going to do that’s special to celebrate women’s empowerment this week? Here are seven recommendations:
1. Volunteer for an organization that serves women and girls. Need some help deciding? Check out our print or online nonprofit resource directory.
2. Purchase a product or service from a woman-owned business. Need a list to choose from? Check out our print and online woman-owned business resource directory.
3. Give a contribution – whatever the size - to a nonprofit that primarily serves women and girls. Anyone can be a philanthropist!
4. Spend quality time with a special woman or girl in your life – celebrate their achievements and be supportive of their goals.
5. View “A Girl’s Life” documentary. Empowered girls have a better chance of becoming empowered women.
6. Take time to celebrate your achievements and goals – what have you done for YOURSELF lately?
7. Share The Women’s Book – pass it on!
What are you going to do this week? Do share!
